In 1996 I composed this:

  http://www.math.harvard.edu/~elkies/spg=.pdf

As remarked at the end, It is not the first such example,
because 9 years earlier Frolkin published a massacre SPG
ending in stalemate. Mine does not quite stalemate Black's
entire army; as I recall this task was accomplished a bit later,
after which there was a stalemate SPG in about 12 moves based on
the famous 9.5 move help-stalemate (which is already almost
but not quite an SPG). I do not remember the sources for
these later problems. Looking online I found

  http://www.pairlist.net/pipermail/retros/2003-September/000557.html

so I guess mine was published in StrateGems 17, and SG 19 presumably
contains either the solution or the 16-man stalemate (or both).
