Long ago I "invented" the term "Parvenue" for a promoted unit but it may be
too general to serve your specific niche. (Wikipedia) The word “*parvenu*”
typically describes a person who recently ascended the social ladder,
especially a *nouveau riche <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nouveau_riche>* or
“new money” individual.

A modern suggestion might be "Copycat". It is more correct in the specific
sense that "the original cat" is still on the board when the "copycat"
appears.
