Is it now absolutely certain that there are no exact orthodox proofgames ending with bare kings. I thought that Francis Labelle's analysis concluded that there wasn't much space in which such a position might still be lurking but that was several years ago. Is there a published or publicised update? Intuitive guess for N_0 is somewhere around 30. Intuitive guess for N_1 is somewhere around 120. There is at least one dualfree (or rather: non-cooked) proofgame in 115 halfmoves, so N_1 is larger than that. I suspect it's not much larger. If some of you wish to submit some original for this event, he can submit it to me (not to the list!). This year, I would like to diminish the ProofGame proportion (usually very high) in this competition. So "classical retros" would be very much appreciated! Of course PG entries are also welcome! Problems selected for this contest will later be published in Phenix and will participate in Retro composing tourney Phenix 2009 together with other retro originals "regularly" published in Phenix.
