Interesting, Olli. Just 50 moves between you and "Bill". Are those his "final 50 moves"? Also, castling presumably resets the 50M count today. I can't find it in "Bill's" story. Is it in yours?

Guus Rol.

Thank You Franco about Your thoughts. Something is wrong because Karl Fabel showed already year 1947 a game which was 5898.5 moves long. The rules have changed since Karl Fabel's time. With current rules the longest game is 5898.0 moves as shown in my article in "Suomen Tehtäväniekat" 4-5/2004. There has been a little protest against my article, telling that in my game the game should be over already in 5897.5 moves due to the dead reckoning rule. That is true, but with a slight modification to that game it can be exten-ded to 5898.0 moves. Olli.
