Hi,

squares on which the king is mated, because otherwise e.g. the
interesting mechanisms for mate on h5 are overshadowed by the slightly
quicker mate on h1. "

Thanks Andrew.
I agree. This opens the task scope and makes it much richer. I need some
time to work how to present the cases and administrate the advance in order
to make it clear for everybody (they will be many PGs).

Meantime I keep your last 8.0 Kh2#. Here is a new one for the Q(sD) case,

Roberto Osorio & Jorge Lois (2,20,2)
rsbqkbsr/pp1p1ppp/8/KB6/P7/4PS2/1PP2PPP/1SBQ3R
10.0 moves

Jorge and me do like this one.

The task definition and status is updated downstream. Still pending candidates
for some dynamyc records. I addition, some of the present records can surely
be improved.

It's specially challenging the N(g)K(f) case. The material record is posible
(from the material point of view) to be (2,m,c), but then 3 pieces have to be
in contact with the mated king. We got it (3,27,5). Some better version?

On the other hand, a present material record includes a Pronkin. I would be
really surprising that at the end a PG including a Pronkin were a record.

Best,
Roberto Osorio

EIGHT OFFICERS HOMEBASE MATE - CONCEPTUAL DEFINITION

CONSTRAINTS
PG diagram showing a mate position where the mating side has its 8 officers
at homesquare and the remaining pawns at homesquare too. Standard material

CASES
There are 11 different cases based on the checking piece and the checking line
( the mated king position is not relevant, just the checking line)

R(h) - mate by rook on (h) row
R(a) - mate by rook on (a) row
B(c) - mate by c1/c8 bishop
B(f) - mate by f1/f8 bishop
Q(lD) - mate by queen on its homesquare long diagonal
Q(sD) - mate by queen on its homesquare short diagonal
Q(d) - mate by queen on (d) row.
N(b)K(a)- mate by knight from its b1/b8 homesquare and oposite king on a3/a6
N(b)K(c)- mate by knight from its b1/b8 homesquare and oposite king on c3/c6
N(g)K(f)- mate by knight from its g1/g8 homesquare and oposite king on f3/f6
N(g)K(h)- mate by knight from its g1/g8 homesquare and oposite king on h3/h6

TASK DEFINITION
Defining,

p: homebase mating side missing pawns
m: PG single moves
c: other side missing pieces

a PG is characterized as (p,m,c). The task asks for economy, so p, m and c have
to be minimized. Two different orders define two different tasks,

1) Material task: minimize first p, then m and finally c.
2) Dynamic task : minimize m, then p and finally c.
