Dear retro friends,

here are the five retros of the traditional Christmas Contest of the
German newspaper "Stuttgarter Zeitung" by Harald Keilhack.

Among the solvers with the correct solutions of A) and B) the following
prices are drawn by lot: a digital camera, an espresso machine and a
telephone with an automatic answering set.

The compilation of the retros was assisted by Günther Weeth.

A)
Günther Weeth, Stuttgarter Zeitung, 12/2003

Add a pawn. Then checkmate in one.

The following retros are not mandatory for the contest, but senders of
correct solutions for C) - E) will receive a bookprice.

First black, then white retract one move, so that white checkmates
in one.

D)

+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+
How many white and black moves are at least necessary to give check with
a) O-O-O+ (white castling to the queen's side)
b) ...O-O-O+ (black castling to the queen's side)
c) O-O+ (white castling to the king's side)
d) ...O-O+ (black castling to the king's side)
This problem asks for the minimum number of moves, not for the number of
possible variants.

White retracts one move. Can he do this in a way that black may not
castle anymore?
A retro analysis has to be given.
