The Distributors on the SL500 are attached to the Cylinderheads .If the Car is parked up for a longer Time, especially during the Winter Time it attracts Moisture in it.The Car will start and runs for 10 minutes and than starts to run un-even and can stall. Will not start for a while. both Caps ,clean out and give it a mist of WD 40.Use any Paper Towel to clean the inside and Cap to get rid of Moisture. What happens is if Moisture is in Distributor is that after you start the Car it will create a Moisture Density which makes the Spark trails along the Cap and misfires. I had the same Problem and I cured it that Way. Most Mercedes Dealers give you a lot of Diagnoses hich cost a lot of Money and has no effect. Try it and it will work regards eddie -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... The transmission up shifts very well and I recently changed the transmission fluid and filter so I think the problem is not inside the transmission. This transmission is electronically controlled (I am told) so I wonder also if there is a computer setting which can cause this problem. Thank you to anyone who can help. I need to replace the driver's side air vent assembly, to one in the fascia next to the door. I have the relevant new part. I can see that it is fixed by two screws at the top. I need to gain access to these screws. Above the vent is a small grill which clips to the vent housing, covering the screws. So how is the back of the grill (nearest the windscreen) secured? I have removes a small sliding rectangular cover behind the grill which reveals a single screw. Is this it? Thanks in advance for any advice. I don't want to fix the vent then have to pay for a new grill! Pete -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... The most likely cause is low battery voltage. Once this happens the system must be reset. Always start the engine before operating the top. How is your battery? In the trunk it is often neglected. Unfortunately I noticed oil running out under the passenger wheelwell and now back to no function. Checked with the mechanic, he tells me it all may need to be replaced if there is a leak in the main unit. Any idea where the leaks usually are on these things? Do I even want to know? If so the oil should be in the spare wheel hole in the trunk. If the oil is leaking out of the passenger side wheel well, most likely is the big main cylinder for moving the frame leaking. But close manual the top. Or refill again and close the top hydraulically and then open the top till the cover comes up, and the back part of the top is lifted. Then stop the control button. Take a wooden piece to hold up the small back part and then you can see if the main cylinder or the cylinder for the back part is leaking, or at last maybe the line ore fitting. When these leaks occur, many of us have the hydraulic cylinder(s) rebuilt for $40 + Shipping, instead of paying the dealer $125+ for a new one. The rebuilder of choice is Dennis Ficken 16285 S. Chester Olathe, Ks 66062 (913) 390-0506 _mercedescylinders at sbcglobal.net_ (mailto:mercedescylinders at sbcglobal.net) Call or email Dennis and describe your situation; his advice is sound as he has done hundreds of these rebuilds and is also a 129 owner. He warrants his work for 3 years which beats the hell out of the dealer's 90 days to 1 year!
