Education Fund Re: IRA Law for Non Taxable Distributions to Non-Profits extended through 2009 On October 3, 2008, President Bush signed an IRA law that made giving a gift to the North Carolina Right to Life Inc. Education Fund easier than ever. This ?rollover? law enables you to give a gift to the North Carolina Right to Life Inc. Education Fund directly from your IRA, without paying taxes or a penalty on your withdrawal. You may even use your required minimum distribution (RMD) to make your gift! You must be 70 ? years old or older to qualify and ?rollover? gifts may not exceed $100,000. While the funds are from your IRA, they do not count as income and will not be taxed as income. ?Rollover? gifts may not have further tax-deductibility. Please consult your personal tax and financial planning advisors. State tax laws may differ. To make a gift from your IRA: 1. Contact your IRA custodian immediately. Many plans require 2-3 weeks to make distributions. 2. Instruct your IRA custodian to make a gift to the North Carolina Right to Life Inc. Education Fund before December 31, 2008. 3. Save taxes by making an IRA ?rollover? gift instead of declaring your withdrawal as income on your 2008 income tax return. This program extends into 2009. If you miss the deadline for 2008, remember that you can make a distribution in 2009.
