I have only been lurking since my beautiful 88 SEC got t-boned by a pickup
truck within hours of getting it back from the performance shop. I guess I'm
still in mourning! I am still looking for her replacement. I continue to
read every day and have joined the NEW list also.
Many thanks to all that make this a great read during a busy day!!!

Hi Yousef,
That's the ETR valve for the AC. It's perfectly normal to see
condensate on that metal housing once the foam cover has been removed.
Place a piece of tight cell foam over it when dry and place a dab of
silicone adhesive on its face to hold the foam in place. Try and
surround the whole valve as was originally done with the apparently
missing piece of MB foam.
The foam will act as an insulator and you will no longer see condensate
dripping from the valve.

Dear SEC Coupes & Old School Members (Mostly Men but you Realize Who I Am in
Your Midst):
Guys.........drop the poison as I have always decreed. Our passion
regarding the Classic Bruno Sacco Classic MBz Chassis Car Models years is
SUPREME. We retain the ownership, drive train mechanics, marque madness, so
lets' lay behind any harsh criticism to those who further our Guardian Angel
dreams in any manner be it new website, meets, etc etc, Collect ourselves
and gather our strength what's left to shine and rock the world of what is
doable and affordable and leave our Legacy to a world of new followers with
our collections and knowledge to light a world of the future on fire with
our strong attachment to all manner of W126, 124, 107's.
If we all could turn back the back the clock of time to ONLY know what a
1950's Gullwing was worth today in ANY condition we'd all be "rich" but
"rich" is a state of mind. Each one of us is RICH is owning a SEC in many
forms well cared for to leave our imprint into the future generation of gear
heads. We might be getting old, but those youngsters have passion and
thirst, and we Old Schoolers can serve the future pipeline.

tell a story to younger collectors out there...........Don't Abandon Older

Yousef,
The metal fittings on the hose can be wrapped or encased in foam tube as
well. From the pictures, it appears your hose(s) to the ETR (Evaporator
Temperature Regulator) Valve were replaced on your MB at some point.
That stain on the metal casing face is where MB applied the adhesive for
the foam block that covered the valve. The foam is structurally firm
and perhaps 1/4 inch (6mm) in thickness. Anything that will prevent the
cabin air from contacting the metal should prevent any future condensate.

I too have moved on to an S class and no longer have and SEC, but I lurk
occasionally. I still wear my Las Vegas / Chicago get together polo shirt.
Good memories every time I drive by the Bahama Breeze restaurant when I'm
in
Vegas, wishing I had a picture of 21 SEC's parked in the lot. Thanks again
Mike Ramay for a great get together.

Hi Folks
Thanks for the advise,I found the front plastic bolt covers very difficult
to remove,I slid flat bladed tools underneath but they seem to be locked
onto something unfortunate despite being very gentle I cracked one. There
must be a technique for removal,I have checked the CD but cannot find any
reference..If anyone has information on how to remove these without breakage
I would appreciate it.

Hi Folks
Well! Just as I was enjoying my SEC ?bug free?for a change a friend asked
for a ride from the bottom of his drive to the top, problem is he has hip
joint problems and was waiting for surgery, so as he is about to get in the
passenger side his hip gives way and he comes crashing down into the
seat(he weighs 130kg)how the welds on the seat frame held together is a
miracle!!
After that the seat would not lock with the engine running,I suspect the
vacuum pipes/connectors have been damaged under the seat I have removed the
rail bolts but the seat would not lift up,I may have to remove the floor
bolts. If anyone has information on how to access the lock components and
effect repair I would appreciate it.

Dan,
Below is from waning memory. Please check the cd manual for specifics.
Slide the seat rearward and remove the two trim caps and two 13mm floor
bolts from the front cabin.
Slide the seat forward and remove the two 13mm bolts from the rear cabin
floor.
Remove the seat belt rail trim cover and bolt in rear cabin from the side of
the transmission. Rock the seat upward and disconnect the electrical and
vacuum lines.
Now remove the seat to a bench and inspect for any frame damage.
Installation is the reverse process.
The vacuum lead manages the seat back lock. The electric harnesses manage
seat belt latch indicator (2-wire?), seat movement (6,8 or 10 pin block?)
and electric heat (should be a relay box and harness under seat) if
equipped.
The motors internal to the seat for rail front to back movement and seat
back elevation are run on thick black cables. These can become loose from
the motors leaving no action while the motors turn and can be repaired on a
bench.
Good luck,
Dick

Prior to removing the seat from the car, check the lock itself in the seat
back - it's easier that moving that heavy, heavy seat. Move the seat forward
a bit, lean the seat back forward and take out the two chrome philip head
screws on the bottom of the the plastic panel that is the back of the seat.
With that panel off, you can see the seat lock and the vacuum line that
locks the seat. It's now easy to test the vacuum line with a Mity-Vac to see
if it's still connected. It took longer to type this than it should take to
do this!!

Hi, Ken. Yes indeed - the Vegas Meet was great, with special thanks to the
Ramays and the Cavazos. Photos are still viewable here, including a nice
write up by Jim Baubel. Several photos of you and your beautiful white 1991
