[W126 Coupe] [w126] water pump replacement time

I just need to know what the service manuals say is the standard water pump
replacement type. I have a great mechanic but lately I feel I have to
double check certain things.

I don't need a lesson in shop costs and mechanic etiquette. I want to now
what MBZ says it should take a typical pump replacement to take....roughly.

Thanks

Rick

560sec by a person who knows what they are doing?

Want to be sure I am n being over charged

Rick,

There are standard time durations specific to each model for various
"standard" jobs that most shops will apply to their billing rate (which will
vary significantly) to arrive at a charge. Most legit shops will stick to
these times even if they finish a job in less time or it takes more time
unless significantly more time is required due to problems not of their
doing. I guess what I'm trying to say is that how much time it actually
takes is not necessarily a good guide to what you will be charged.

A few days ago there was a question on oil changes when putting a car up for
winter. I believe the general consensus of opinion was it's not necessary
if you are using a synthetic such as Mobil 1. My question is aren't there
contaminants that build up in the oil such as acids because of starting and
stopping driving? I was always under the impression that changing the oil
rather than have it sit 5 or 6 months is a better practice. Can someone
tell me that's not true so I don't have to spend all that money each fall?

Thanks, as always-

Hi all,

I think this subject has come up before but I?ll give my 2 cent to the
conversation.

I kept feeling vibration from the drivetrain during acceleration and it
progressively got worse.

I just had a local Mercedes specialist take a look and it and the rubber
that houses the bearing was

completely torn causing the vibration through the body.

It was about a 3 hour job and the cost was as follows

Center support $80.00

Bearing CTR $19.44

Hanger X type $8.80

Labor $315.00

After Changing the above parts all vibration is gone.

Thanks

Captain

*For drive shaft vibration, check the flex discs. I put URO part flex discs
on my 560SEL and they fell apart in less then 10 months. I felt a little
vibration beforehand but thought it was something else as the flex discs
were so new.

When they did come apart they ripped the back of my transmission casing
clean off and set the airbags off, which effectively turned my very nice
560SEL into a parts car.

It was a horrible lesson, but I feel that I have to tell the story even it
means walking the the walk of shame.*

Agreed Captain. I just had the exact same procedure done to my 88 560SEC.
The driveshaft I believe is divided into 3 parts with a front, rear and
center couplings each containing rubber grommets that wear over time. The
middle section contains the bearing which I had my mechanic replace. The
entire job cost me $500 with parts and labor.
