Hi Joe,
I was just reviewing some MBCoupes mails before deleting them from my inbox and came across your note below.
There is a publication (newsletter) that has been around for about 25 years that comes out every 3-4 weeks. It's called the SL Market Letter and it pertains to all collectible MBs, focusing on price trends and some news articles and editorial. The newsletter costs about $75 per year but it's a great read and I've been a subscriber for more than 10 years now. It's print only -- not available electronically. You can see more (and download a sample issue or two) at www.slmarket.com
Anyway, John Olson, the editor, issues price trends at least once per year on the S-Class coupes from all years (and in other issues he does other collectable MBs). His latest coupe findings were about a year ago (so we're due for another round of price info) but he delineates it by year and condition of the cars. Also he only focuses on SOLD prices, not asking prices.
If you are interested, here is the data for 1989-1992 560SEC coupes, by rated condition (classic 1-6 scale) of the cars. The reason he lists the 126 coupes up to 1992 is because some were actually sold that year, although technically they were 1991 model cars. Anyhow ….
The data shows that the cars have just bottomed out or are just bottoming out in price, and in some instances have started to head back up slightly. I think we have turned the corner in values for the SECs.
1989 SEC new price: $79,840
