Interstate Batteries are by far the best available, at least here in the States.
Older Mercedes-Benz cars require a Group 93 size battery (or Group 49 as an alternative) which is a size that is common for German cars (BMW, Audi, MB, etc.).
I have exclusively gone to Interstate batteries for my MB fleet and indeed they have always exceeded the rated warranty lifetime -- it is not a stretch to get 8+ years from an Interstate high-end battery.
The Interstate battery that fits the 560SEC / C126 is the Interstate MegaTron Plus MTP-93, which has 1000 amps, 850 cold-cranking amps and an 85-month warranty. It has more than enough power to power any V-8 MB in the C126/W126. I believe DIN85 or DIN100 are the correct sizes that equate to the Group 49 or Group 93 US battery sizes. The Federal 649MF would look to be the best Australian battery for the SEC application, in my opinion.
I just recently installed said battery in my 1987 560SL and my 1994 E500 (W124) as well as installing in the past the slightly smaller MTP-91 in my wife's 1995 E320 wagon (W124).
Here are a couple of places to look for them in Australia:http://www.rjbatt.com.au/battery/industrial-batteries/88http://jgdarden.com/batteryfaq/batbrand.htmGood luck!Cheers,Gerry

Apparently there is an interstate distributor just up the road a bit* ~ I'll contact him/her tomorrow and see how the pricing looks. That warrantee is probably a lot shorter here in Oz ~ 24 or 36 months is typical, haven't seen any longer than that. 85 months would be excellent ~ that's seven years!!!
