I'm using standard hydraulic fluid in my SEL and SEC, but I live in Las
Vegas where, thankfully, it doesn't get particularly cold. I'd suggest using
the John Deere hydraulic fluid as it's meant to be used outside in pretty
much any climate.
Most of the time, a hydraulic fluid leak up front is either the pump on the
front of the motor (90% of the time) or the high pressure steel line that
leaves the pump and wraps around the front of the engine. Betcha it's the
pump. There are three o-rings in there that you will need to replace. Take
off the pump, disassemble to get the three o-rings, and go visit your local
hydraulic hose shop. Buy yourself Viton o-rings, and I'd suggest maybe three
sets of them. Should cost under $10.00 for the 9 o-rings.
