I assume that when it worked OK you pulled on the hood release lever and the passanger side poped first then the driver side?  Have you pulled the lever far enough?  Pull hard on it with all your fingers on the lever as to not break the plastic.  Sometimes the primery releases at the front need lube and stick.
 
IF you're sure that the lever is being pulled as far as it will go and it still won't release, try removing the entire lever assembly.  The lever assembly is screwed to the sidewall with 2 philips screws (abt 1½" long).  When loose you can pull directly on the cable.
