[W126 Coupe] Locked keys in 560 SEC

Mike - No; not really. BUT do you want to tell me what the temperature is
in July when it's 70 here?

Baltimore and vicinity really got hit last year where we only had small
storms. My neighbor was in VA on their way to Salt Cay and he went around
his sister-in-law's neighborhood helping people clear their roofs before
they collapsed. I was able to get back in my woods with the tractor and
haul out next years' (2012) wood.

We all adjust.

Best wished,

Dick

Does that mean you don't want to hear that it was about 70F in Las Vegas
today and I used the air conditioning in the SEC?? :-)

I had the dubious pleasure of doing a gig just north of Baltimore Washington
Airport last February when they set the record for the most snow in recorded
history for that one storm. Not even a "nice place to visit". :-(

Y'all take care and stay warm!!!
Mike

Dean - When it goes from -20 to 28 it's warmer. I washed both vehicles this
PM (I have hot water in the garage and a super drain right outside the
garage door).

Danville, VT (still snowy but warmer)

You wish it was warmer.

A good old fashioned Nor'easter is about to dump on you.

Jay -

You are right about the possibility of the magnet not holding but I think
they're made better now (larger magnets). Some 20-25 years ago one of mine
came off but I had my name & address wrapped around the key. Someone found
it and mailed it to be. I haven't lost another since then as I place it
where it will lie flat on top of steel. On my old Toyota T100 & present
Nissan Frontier it's easy to nudge the lock tab and lock yourself out. I
don't know if I'd put one on a Mercedes as what happened seems like a
"fluke". I had my battery out last summer and the car never locked but you
never know. Does the dealer remove the keys when they disconnect &
reconnect the battery?

I also keep an extra set on a key rack and bring them with me on trips.

I have extra keys to all my cars hanging on a rack inside my house an also
have extra keys with my brother.

I have two sets of keys on me when ever I take car for a ride.

The "hidden key" part on the car somewhere does not always work, you may
forget where you "hid the key" and sometimes after years of "bumps" in the
road the magnetic holders are not as magnetic as you thought.

have minimum two sets of keys or key fobs

keep cruisin

Although I always thought it was almost impossible to lock oneself out of a
M-B I guess this would be a good time to get an extra key and hide it in one
of those magnetic holders under the front somewhere. They have saved my
butt a few times on other makes.

Your MB Dealer will likely need your registration papers, VIN, and
identification to satisfy them that you ARE the owner. Then they will order
a new key based on your VIN.... sometimes around here (Canada) that takes 2
weeks.

Call a tow truck. Towing companies "break into" cars all the time to remove
illegally parked cars as well as (often) to help owners like you to gain
access to locked keys. An experienced towing employee usually takes less
than a minute.

I watched my mechanic do this once and it is surprisingly easy to break in.

Just remove the trim (don't scratch the paint) along the door top next to
the glass and you get access from there down into the inner workings.

You'll need to create a tool with strong wire to pop up the lock mechanism.
