[W126 Coupe] Wm Rickman - DETECTION AND TIMING

To MBCoupes types,
I think most everyone will agree that the game has changed with regards
to malicious virus code and all forms of malware. First of all the
virus must exist in the wild and be detected and then reported to a
internet security resource/clearinghouse. Then each anti-virus software
application provider must add to their unique detection libraries and
update their clients. Then the clients (our pc apps), depending on scan
schedules and live receipt detection settings must be set to detect this
same virus code. In a word it is all about 'timing'.
It is increasingly difficult to manage all the possible points of
intrusion failure on networks and no one product can do it all. The
only recommendation I will make is to look carefully at the processor
overhead required to run your defensive tools as some are pretty heavy
consumers. Lastly, usage does play a role in the risk you face but, we
may soon reach the tipping point where timing supersedes today's best
practices and your personal navigation vigilance.
So, we may well enter a period where detection lags infection.
Hopefully, it will not be on a large scale.
Regards,
Dick
