[W126 Coupe] "Whirring" noise in the engine

worn reverse and front pump cheesing out are two very different
problems.. your reverse clutches were/are weak, lucas has an additive
package that helps make them Grab, as well as thickening the fluid which
ups the pressure on the band/clutch pack.
You can buy a good bit of time w/ lucas and worn clutches. Switching to
Type F helps as well.
