[W126 Coupe] body parts

Because there are still plenty of 560 SEC's available to establish the ACV, I would choose not to go stated value unless my vehicle had been modified extensively and had greater value than the average comparable vehicle. For example: I currently own a 1958 Corvette which has been greatly modified and no longer resembles a factory issue . . . I had to go "stated value" and pay the insurance company a higher premium for the higher coverage. Because you can only legally insure that which you have insurable interest in you should expect that you will have to have a qualified appraisal to file with your insurance company. In other words, you can not insure your car for more than what it is worth. ( all of this, of course, is based on California Insurance Law).

Folks: We had this discussion not long ago and this is a perfect example that one should insure his or her vehicle as "Stated Value". You get an appraisal for the value of your vehicle and you and your insurance company agree that in case of an accident or a "total" you will be reimbursed for the stated value.

If anyone has insurance experience and would like to enhance this statement please jump in. It's important to all of us that we get reimbursed for our vehicles that we so lovingly care for.

Kent,

I am not familiar with your insurance laws but the agreements in the states is that the insurance company is obligated to pay for the damage to your car or give you enough money to replace it with a similar vehicle, (whichever is the lesser in cost to the insurance company). If your insurance laws speak of ACV (actual cash value), the insurance company has an obligation to show you the vehicle that they based their ACV settlement offer on. If they are a fair company they should be able to do this and you should be able to take the money and buy that vehicle. As for your 89 560SEC; if you want to keep it for parts you should be able to buy it back from the insurance company for a reasonable price.

Good luck,
Ernie Stephens

Hi

I had an accident on Sunday, someone hit me on the rear right side, behind the filling cap. I thought it would cost about R15.000-20.000, (about USD 2.500). Today I was told by the body shop that it will cost closer to USD 9.000, and the insurance company will probably prefer to pay the value (their value) instead of repairing it. I have spent close to USD 25.000, the car is in excellent condition and only got 197.000 kilometre. Where can I find second hand parts, rear bumper (lower plastic), right rear light, right rear chrome bumper. Anyone in South Africa that knows about a breaker with a 560 SEC (mine is a white 1989).
