[W126 Coupe] climate control problem ??

I've got the same problem, the blower works, air coming from the side vents and blowing on the windshield.  My '84 500SEC is a Euro, so I have the two twist-type dials, one for the blower and the other selects where the air is to go.  My direction selecting knob has gotten real tight from non-use so I can't even move it.  My A/C doesn't work either.  I also have an '82 380SEC US Version donor car, but it has the climate control with the buttons.  Are they interchangeable?  I mean the whole panel, obviously.

Gary,Was just going to write about same problem that happened on my car today,  except my blower works.Hot air from windshield defroster vents, etc.The climate control units for all SEC/SEL's from 1986-91 are the same.  Only difference is "F"  or "C" numbers.
Have heard from several  friends these units were a weak link in  an otherwise good car.keep cruisinJay H
