[W126 Coupe] left key in ignition

Could be indeed be a fried solenoid if the lockout is not the problem. Personally I have had nothing but GRIEF with Bosch rebuilt starters. Not on my W126 SEC's but on W124's, I have had 4 Bosch "rebuilt" starters with solenoid failure in the past year (on two 124's; one 300TD, one 300TE) These "rebuilt" starters are Genuine Bosch rebuilt-in-the-USA guaranteed and warranteed (fortunately) but I'm getting really tired of the R&R. In all cases the solenoids failed, 3 times failing to disconnect, once unable to connect.

If the key was turned to the "on" position, "juice" is going to the starter solenoid and after several hours can burn out the solenoid. Ignition does not have to be turned on and hand held in start for electrical current to be going to solenoid.

Maybe be the gear lever and could be solenoid, COULD also have been a disaster, if the 8-year old started the car

Kent;
Leaving the ignition "on" for 8 hours can (but not likely) damage the ignition system. But the post-'85 ignition modules are pretty bullet-proof (in my limited experience). However, even if the ignition system is toast, it should still turn over (but not start), so that's not likely the problem. Did your daughter play with the gear lever? The transmission/starter lock-out seems to be the most likely fault. Will the engine turn over in Neutral? Shift it back and forth between "P" and "N" see if there is any life in the solenoid then.

If your daughter had turned the key to start and engaged the starter motor, the engine likely would have started and you would have known that. She then could have put it into "D" and put the car and whatever was in front of it into your garage for you whether the door was open or not.

Hi
I parked the car outside the garage yesterday because I needed space to do a few other things, I later saw my 8 year old daughter sitting in the car, playing with electric seat, playing music and so on, it wasn’t anything to worry about so I let her be. In the evening 7 or 8 hours later when I was going to park in the garage again, I discovered that she had turned on the ignition and left it on. The battery was nearly dead, I have now charged it during the night and everything works, except the engine is totally dead, the starter motor doesn’t even ‘click’.

What could be the problem
