[W126 Coupe] Off topic

Hi Dan,
My wife and I rented a car [Ford Focus] from Hertz in Munich last year. Like
you, I had never driven 'on the wrong side of the road' either!
We did as planned, about 5k km through Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Austria
and back to Germany, with a day trip into France.
We bought no excess cover when we picked up the car, as well as a SatNav
unit. We didn't need the former thankfully but we would still be there
without the latter.
To complicate things a little more, I'm in a wheelchair and the car had to
have hand controls.
It all got a bit much for Hertz here, though they tried hard, so eventually,
I phone Hertz in Germany direct, got the details and relayed them to Hertz
here.
I found that in the flow of traffic, it's almost natural, even going around
roundabouts the wrong way!
Where it gets exciting is turning right/left at traffic lights when cars are
stopped. I found an strong pull to the wrong side of the road.

Hi Folks

Thanks for all your input & advise,I have contacted AVIS & HERTZ here in

Australia who stated that the USA & Canada have totally different rental
agreements to the rest of the world in that Credit cards often cover rental
insurance( know as Collision Damage Waiver or Loss Damage Waiver ) as does
your own personal car insurance. My insurance company

here does not insure a rental cars in the policy although it does
concentrate on classic cars and car club members in particular.

If I rented a car from these two companies mentioned here all I would
have to pay extra for is excess coverage,as excess is normally $2500AUD and
is usually covered by travel insurance.

Its going to be "fun" as I have yet to experience driving on the left side
of the road, still if I do accidentally stray on to the other side I am sure
the screams of my passengers will quickly alert me back again to the correct

side!!

Kind Regards Dan Gardner
