[W126 Coupe] ABS brakes

You can also use a MityMite Hand Vacuum pump to draw the brake fluid from
each corner..

Use a turkey baster to suck the old fluid out of the reservoir, refill with
fresh fluid and from each caliper bleeder screw, attach the hand pump with
supplied plastic catch jar. Pump up a good vacuum, open the bleeder screw
and watch the old fluid fill the catch jar while making sure the master
reservoir does not suck dry. Close the bleeder, empty the jar and repeat
process until fluid comes out nice and clean.. (I think about 80ml worth).

What is nice about the vacuum pump is, it can be used for other things.
Very handy tool.

BTW, pumping the brake pedal is not a good idea. When the system is opened
to allow the old fluid to be pushed out by pressing the pedal all the way to
the floor, you are using an area within the master cylinder that is not
normally used and it could damage the MC seals..

Dick brings up a great point if you are using a pressure bleeder. Those two
rubber caps at the rear of the master cylinder get brittle/cracked with age.
If you use the pedal method, usually not an issue. But if you use the
pressure bleeder method, you will have issues if there are cracks and the
fluid will blow all over! They are cheap parts, even at your local stealer.

In changing brake fluid and then bleeding system for air bubbles, what
is the correct procedure, steps to follow?

With non-ABS bleeding procedure is simple...do wheel furthest from
master and then next wheel etc.

With ABS do you bleed the ABS control module first, and then do the
wheels or do the wheels and then the ABS control?

thank you

Jay,

Replace the two rubber sensor caps (MB Dealer) on the brake fluid reservoir.
Purchase a Brake Bleeder. Pump to 26-28 lbs once attached to the reservoir.
Bleed pass rear, driver rear, pass front, driver front. Bleed each until
fluid runs clear.

That's it.
