[W126 Coupe] Cross drilled vs. stock

Jay,

I put a set of Akebono's on my wife's Volvo - absolutely terrific. Very much
like OEM friction feel, and essentially NO brake dust. When I wanted to put
them on my '84 500 SEC, I could not find them listed any place; not even on
the Akebono Web site.

Could you tell me where you sourced your pads?

Thanks for the help,

Dave Crawford

I use Akebono, non racing pads and rotors, Made in USA of Canada No
squeal, no black dust.

My car is a cruiser 85 mph on highway, not for racing or performance.

Met some "tuner" guys a few years ago and they recommended Akebono.

Racing pads and rotors work best only when they get hot, nor meant for
street use.

There is enough friction in general in the world, do not need anymore

keep cruisin

Reason I like the slotted is not so much for air to get in, but w/ organic
pads you do have a fair bit of off gassing (more so then w/ sintered/ceramic)
so these slots Would help there.

I also like that you have more leading edges on the slotted rotor, while it
does dimish pad life it also helps keep the face of the pad fresh for optimal
friction.

As for rotor manufacture, I'd stick w/ ATE, Balo or Zimmermann. The consumer
branded brembo's are coming from China last set I saw...:(

www.buyeuroparts.com is my pref'd vendor, honest and knowledgeable!

I have Brembo crossed drilled slot rotors on my 84' coupe. But when it comes
time to replace them I will go back to a quality stock rotor. The slotted
rotors provide a means for air to pass through the rotors keeping them cooler
than stock. In a race car application this is something you would definetely
want. But for everyday driving they will wear out your brake pads twice as
fast. Whether or not they are worth buying is a personal preference kind of
thing that will ultimately be up to your pocket book. I personally think that
a quality stock pair would do the job. Stock rotors vary in price quite a bit
and that's gbecause of the difference in the quality of the metal used to
make them, Brakes systems are a place you don't want to skimp or cut corners.
There are a few companies online that have them. I got mine from
Autohausaz.com. Brakeworld.com also has a good selection. I hope that helps
in your decision.

Is it worth buying cross drilled rotors for my 82' 380 sec or stay stock?
Where do you recommend to buy the rotors? best deal?

thanks,

Ramon
