I had a similar problem crop up on my 500SEC and as the others have 
said, it was the fuel control relay.

As an electronics tech, it offended me to just replace it though, so I 
popped it open, and it was easily obvious what had happened, as there 
were a couple of discolored connections to the output terminals of the 
actual relay on the circuit board inside.
After resoldering those connections, I reinstalled the same fuel pump 
relay and have yet to have any issues since.
