Subject: [W126 Coupe] STEERING VIBRATION

I haven't followed this thread real close but from what I have read no one has ementioned a good possibility---the streering damper. If it goes south this type of vibration can be the result, I know it happend to one of my earliers MB's.

It's very easy to check. Just raise the front of the car enuf to crawl under it. Locate the steering damper---it runs cross wise and ties into the steering components.
It looks like a long shock absorber, which it is. Remove one end by taking out the bolt that holds it on and see if you can compress or pull on it. If that is easy then it's shot. A new one is very ,very stiff and takes some effort to compress or stretch. New ones are quite inexpensive and Randy can get you one right away.

As I said this vibration problem happened to me on one of the MB's I owned and installing a new damper fixed the problem.

It's worth checking out before throwing a lot of money at the problem---eliminate the cheap fixes before going on to the big dollar ones.
