[W126 Coupe] Hydraulic Compensating Element question

No, actually the warmer the ambient temperature is, the less clack. In the
winter it takes several minutes for the clack to stop. My car has about
230K. It may be time to try a different valve shim.

I've got a stethoscope on order, that I hope will be able to pinpoint the
problem..

See thru covers would be cool. I've never try to run the engine with the
cover off, I'm sure it would be a mess.. Is there a lot of splash from the
cam oilers or just the run off from the flush top head surface? If it's run
off, then cutting off the tops of a set of old v/c's would allow you to see
what's going on w/o much mess.. Just a thought..

Hope Jack is doing well. Did he get another SEC?

Are you saying that at a cooler standing temperature,

it is quiet?

Well then what about in the winter?

Anyone else, I'd say change the oil to a higher grade,

like 20 - 50. But with your care, that shouldn't make

the clatter go away.

Does it have high mileage (maybe simple wear and tear)?

I would still enlarge the cross-oilers. I would also remove

the valve covers just after warm-up and visually see if you

have the same quantity of oil, at each valve tower. Wish

we had see-through covers. That would be slick.

I'm doing well. Jack was just here to pickup his 560SEL.

We did lots of stuff to it. I have a lift, so it's easier for me

to get things done.

It was good to see him. Reminds me of the old gatherings.
