Not likely. Even today, we do not see many of the diesel models that we see
in Europe.
My brother owns an 04 CLK 270CDI which is a 140mph car that gives him
40+mpg. We don't see it here and this was the first 2 door model to be
offered in Europe with a diesel. Up until then, even in Europe, a 2 door
sports car in Diesel was rare.
