You are right, the windshields are still available; I just received the following: 3. Website Staff 02/25/2010

This part is currently not available through normal warehouse resources. We able able to get it through our Classics division at a cost of $374.00 plus $120.00 to package and ship to you directly. You would then need to find a local installer to do the installation. Please let us know what you would like to do. You can reach us by phone at 800-914-1075 or via the online system. Your credit card has not been charged. Thank you.

Dean Slone suggested using silicone or RainX on pitted windshields so I coated my windshield this morning with RainX and what a difference, it really does work. So thanks to everybody for your input and the good news is that there are windshields still available and the better news is that the silicone/RainX works, is quick and more affordable.
Ernie

Subject: [W126 Coupe] 126 coupe/sedan windshield availability

After reading the posts from the past couple of days with regard to the seeming discontinuation of 126 coupe and sedan windshields both from the aftermarket and from MB, I did some digging into the situation. It seemed quite surprising to me that glass would be discontinued -- this is usually NOT normal even with older cars. There are still enough 126 cars on the road, by far, to support the manufacturing of windshield glass for them.

In any case, a quick inquiry with MBUSA indicated that there are plenty of windshields available within the MBUSA parts system. A number of them are in stock at MB in Ohio, at a RETAIL parts cost of $505. If ordered through your dealer, a one-week delivery time is quoted; for extra cost a 3-day expedited shipment can be had.

I am sure that a qualified MB discounter such as Parts.com and/or Autohaus AZ or Caliber Motors would provide a price that is closer to wholesale cost for this particular part.

So.... confirmed with MBUSA that it's all a "false alarm" and the glass is DEFINITIVELY still available, at least through dealer channels.

Cheers,
Gerry
