Hello listers,
Through a series of cruel encounters with lousy mechanics, I have ended up with a Euro engine in my Australian-delivered 560SEC. This may actually be a good thing. I'm trying to approach this positively as the outlay and frustration to get to this point has been completely negative.
The original motor was a write-off due to poor workmanship by the first grease monkey so I had to source a local replacement. Not easy to find, but a replacement / remanufactured unit was dropped in. It never idled properly, so I sought further advice.
The latest guy seems to know what he is doing and has done some good detective work.
The engine number leads him to believe it is a Euro motor from a LH drive car.
The compression is up around 180 so this suggests it is a higher-compression motor than the usual choked-down Australian specs.
Getting the Euro engine to 'talk' to the Australian spec loom and peripherals ahas been the challenge. The engine wasn't designed for use with an 02 sensor or cats, so this has been interesting, to say the least.
I am yet to drive the car but he assures me it is running well if a little lumpy (from the Euro cams, apparently).
I know that the topic of putting ECE motors into US bodies has been discussed before and I wonder if anyone knows a way to work around the differences.
Any hints from the gurus?
Cheers,
marcus
