[W126 Coupe] Replacing windshield on W126

I replaced my pitted windshield about 5 years ago for about $250 (I carry a $250 deductible). My windshield is again pitted and I may have to use the insurance this time but only if there is a windshield to be found. The only problem I have with this windshield is night driving in the rain or when the sun is shinning in my face at sunrise or sunset.
I ended the day with another glass shop promising to check with all of his connections and report back to me tomorrow . . .we shall see.

I find this very hard to believe. Call your insurance company (assuming you have comprehensive coverage or glass coverage). Otherwise, call the yards, Potomac German Auto has a place in Maryland, another one in Florida, they specialize in foreign cars and may have one.
Otherwise, get on Benzworld, and Peachparts (.com). I saw several SECs being parted out there. Unfortunately the glass on mine was broken.

Dick,
It doesn't look good: I just got off the phone with Cascade Glass, a major player in replacement windshields; they gave me a quote which sounded pretty good but when they put me on hold to to check their inventory they found that they didn't have any W126 windshields and that they couldn't find a source, that there is no more manufacturing of the W126 windshield. Maybe somebody will start making them again but it looks like it would be wise to take care of what we have till then.

Dick,
Thanks for the advice, I'll give that a try. Ventura Mercedes didn't show any windshields in their on-line inventory so I called them by phone and got put on hold for about 4 minutes before I hung up. ' . . . I don't think that they sell new windshields anyway.

Hi Ernie,
Check another glass shop or two. That glass is standard on all 126 chassis Mercedes. These cars are now 20 years old at a minimum but, I would think glass would still be in supply.
Good luck,
Dick

I was just informed by the glass shop that they couldn't give me an estimate for replacing the windshield on my 87 560 SEC because they couldn't find a replacement . . . .not even from the dealer! Does anyone have a source for windshields?
