[W126 Coupe] paint question

In the early "stage" of the base coat/clear coat there numerous
problems of hazing, peeling, etc.
On all cars, domestic or "furein"
It seems domestic paint companies solved the problem years earlier
than the thick-headed-engineers at MB.

clear coating is not a new thing. Up until the mid 1920s all
domestic cars were painted and then "cleared" with varnish.
