I bought an 87 560 SEC in 1993 with 99k on the odometer. It is true that the ride and handling is somewhat compromised which no doubt adds expense to an already expensive maintenance budget but, as for me, if I wanted a Plain Jane vehicle I would have bought a Toyota.
Lower it if you wish, it's your toy . . .have fun.

lowering the car: the ride will be hard and twitchy ,the steering
geometry and suspension will be stressed , the shocks will not be in a
optimum operating height .Even a simple addition of rim spacers will
effect steering feel & feedback .
