I see now that it appears that chunk was removed to allow oil to 'vent' back
to the crankcase from the tensioner. You can see how the gasket is cut to
fit that knockout. The center hole of the 3 small holes looks to be the oil
supply.
Glad to hear my little write-up was help to you, Gerry. It's been about
7yrs now since I did mine and everything's running fine. Except for what I
think is a flakey hydraulic compensating element. Sometimes when the
engine's cold I get a fairly loud clack for a minute or 2 until the oil gets
a little warm and get flowing. It's hard to tell from which bank, because
once I get into listening with a probe, it stops. I've tried forcing each
down as the book suggests, but none of them budge. I may have to bite the
bullet and replace them all.
