[W126 Coupe] Antenna issues

I had a slightly bent antenna on my 1990 560SEC that was working sporadically, usually depending on the temperature outside. Then one day it refused to go up to more than 1/2 mast, no matter what I did.
I was told it was easy to replace the mast, so I bought one from the local dealer (not too expensive, for a change), and the instructions were easy to follow and right on the package. HOWEVER, I couldn't manage to accomplish step 1 of the simple instructions, for my life, since I couldn't get the existing antenna to extend beyond the 1/2 way point.
It was then I discovered that I had somehow accidentally bumped the dash antenna switch into the 1/2 way position at some point, and as soon as I moved it to full on, it worked fine, and the old mast ran right out and was easily fixed. Worked fine ever since, and the erratic up and down is fully corrected. Believe me, if I could do this anyone can.

If "they" broke it then let them fix it again.
The shaft may also have a slight bend in it. Have someone put on the radio and try pulling up the antenna gently.
If it then comes up see if each section is straight.

My antenna doesn't engage when the stereo powers on. It's set automatically when I turn on the stereo but it doesn't come up anymore. Recently, it was serviced by the Mercedes dealer and it worked shortly thereafter but seemed to have stopped now. I would return it to the dealer but they fixed it for free since they were the ones who broke it. I've tried the basics like checking the fuse and ground connections but that's about it. Before I start taking things apart, can anyone offer some other suggestions?
