[W126 Coupe] 7" of play in park

In case anyone wants to see what's going on..

74=parking pawl

73=locking gear

I would think 7" of roll once lever is placed in Park and foot is removed
from brake is excessive and something is worn. Even my car with over 220k
miles only rolls an inch or 2 max. And once the parking pawl engages,
rocking the car forward and backward should result is hardly any movement.
If there is, I'd then suspect worn or failing drive train couplings
components.

I think we may all be interpreting the information differently.

Perhaps we need to rephrase the question to 560secfl:
Does the car roll 7" between the time the car is placed in Park and the
transmission locks (normal) OR when the car IS already locked in Park, you
can roll it 7"?

Depending on the scenario above, you may or may not have an issue.
If it rolls 7" between placing it in Park and before the car locks, this in
NOT an issue.
If it rolls 7" once it's locked in Park, you may have something going on but
again, I would inspect your driveline play (U-Joints and Rear Axle) before I
suspect the trans.
Parking pawls normally don't 'wear'. The either work or they don't
(breakage).
Slop or play in the Park mechanism should not increase appreciably with age
or mileage (as Johnathan confirmed in his S&G test).

If you just spent 2K five months ago on this trans and the Pawl is now
defective, I'd shoot your mechanic. The Park mechanism should outlast the
life of the transmission/car in normal use.

Start with the low hanging fruit first- Please clarify which scenario you
are seeing the 7" play and then troubleshoot accordingly. Since the
transmission was just done by a (hopefully) competent mechanic, I would
check the other potential culprits first.

Perhaps Mr. Pecarich is not aware that Jono IS an MBZ mechanic?

FWIW, my 560SEC rolled an inch or two in Park, but never six. I guess I got
one with extra teeth.........

As I said before, I have checked with a MBZ mechanic and the answer was
"The roll in park is normal. Mercedes uses very few teeth on their park lock
gear so you'll get some roll before the pawl engages."

Never argue with a dragon, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.
