[W126 Coupe] dash lighting

Before subscribing to this forum I ran my problem through another with no luck.  I have an '87 SEC (Euro) with the trip computer, etc. on the right side of the dash.  The clock is digital and is set through the timer on the console  that controls the alternate heater for warming the car & cooling system on a cold morning.  The temperature gauge is centered below the clock where it is located on US models.  My problem is that there is no illumination of the clock & temp. gauge at night with the dash lights on.  I have looked at these instruments for some clue as how they should be lit but cannot find any bulbs, etc.  I understand that the rest of the instruments are backlighted but not these.  Any ideas?
