Dr. H,
I don't know how mechanically inclined you are, but....next time this happens, pull out the fuel pump relay located between the two firewalls, its the black one that says FPR and a bunch of numbers on it. The one next to is says Klima and is your klima relay, its NOT that one, and its not the red one with plastic top which is the OVP relay. Pull out the FPR, and take a 12 gauge piece of wire, and stick one end into the hole marked #x, the other end in the hole marked #y. Then see if the car restarts, if so, the FPR is the problem.
I can't remember what x and y should be right now, its either 6 and 7, or 7 and 8. Its the two opposite each other, there are 2 rows of 6 pins I think. One of the numbers is in one row the other is in the second row, that's what I mean by opposite each other.

Hi, I have a problem, need your brains.
My 560SEL is currently running better than ever after MB mechanic took my gas tank out relined the interior replaced everything we could think of in the fuel system. BUT now twice (this AM driving to work the 2nd) when I drive it, it will cut out, acts like no fuel gets to it. When spray "starting fluid in Fuel Dist. and it trys to start. BUT right before the TOW TRUCK chains are about to be attached it will start run great home again. As if it needs to cool off for an hour. 3 times, different days I have let it run for 30 minutes with no problems. No water temperature problems. HELP. Cannot tell if fuel pumps are making noise due to traffic noise...............

Well, you can try and find gen2 euro bumpers (good luck, hard to find, and
even if you do, quite expensive - there's a set on ebay right now for over $800
plus shipping and they need work), or you can go with gen1 euro bumpers, or get
AMG, Lorinser, etc like I have on mine. In general, these are getting harder
and harder to find, especially with non-rusted or dinged chrome.

Markus,
No not necisarrily "Period Correct" The car is not going to be stock in look
or anything. The interior will be from my 91 and customized passed that so,
more of what I want in an 85 SEC not really what the engineers may have thought
of!

David,
I assume you want to stay "period correct" and get gen1 euro bumpers, since
your 500 is a gen1 model? If so, I have a set of Lorinser euro bumpers that are
available. For standard euro gen1 bumpers, you can check ebay, benzworld or
peachparts classifieds, they pop up there from time to time.

Gang,
I have been off the list for a while, but still monitoring until I got
unsubscribed! I am starting to get my 85 500SEC project going again. It has sat
in my garage for the past 3 years with the interior out of it and the interior
of my crashed 91 560SEC in the basement!
Does anybody know a good place to get a a decent pair of Euro Bumpers? They
don't have to be in perfect condition, just no cracks or breaks. Also what
should I expect to pay for a pair? Of bumpers that is.
Thanks,
David

Ronny,
Lots of differences. The euro gen1 are narrower than the euro gen2, and on the
rear the gen1 dips "in" faster than the gen2, which means the muffler and tire
well are seen more easily. Most asthetics, but still, there are differences.
Overall, the euro bumpers are slimmer than the US bumpers, which were the same
across all the 126 models years, no US gen1 or gen2. Again, mostly asthetics,
but attachment points are different, the US bumpers have "shocks" that attach
that were supposed to help in 5mph or less accidents.
Lorinser, AMG, Zender, etc are all tuners that added lips/spoilers to the
existing bumpers to bring them even lower to the ground. Here is a good link
with pictures:

Actually, it is coming along nicely. The main items are the
rear window install and the trunk-lid. It should be completed
by the end of December. I changed the color from burgundy
to 'fuck-you-officer' red (I mean it's red!!!). I have already
torn-up the parking lot where I keep it. It's a beast with the
tri-ys and straight through exhaust. I should be pushing 300hp
after some fine tuning. In the meantime I purchased an '84,
(genuine) white-on-white 500 SEC. Real AMG all around, including
the camshafts, high compression, etc. Too many projects. Ciao.

Attila,
I followed your advice. First the little bumpers had a different length and
the side I had most problems to close was much higher than the other. I
started to lower this to the same height as the other bumper. Now it closes
much easier but the hood is now much more lower than the other side.
I started placing washers between the hood and the locking device and I
found out I needed 3 washers under the bolts. I had also to place two
washers on the other side and everything works fine. By the way the locking
device that did not gave me problems had a metal plate in between to raise
the lock. I took that out.
Thank you for the help.
Ronny

Yes. The mechanism is identical. You have the same issue
I had. If the hood is lower than the fender, simply place
washers under the 'hood catch' until the hood is exactly lined-up
with fender (when closed). The spring will automatically raise
the hood to its maximum level. But, you need to look at both
sides. Don't just align one side perfect, without looking at
the other. Save some money. You can easily do this yourself.
It's a 10mm nut. Hope this helps.

Attila,
I managed to get the hood in the lock, but then the hood is a little lower
than the fender.
I also went back to my mechanic and let him read your comments. He
understands your information, but he said the problem is the lock, because
it is not holding the hood.
Do you know if the lock from the sel is the same as from an sec?

Ronny. No, you don't. Save yourself alot grief. Back-off
the little rubber bumpers which keep the hood from going
too low, when you shut it. In fact, just remove these, because
this is only for people who slam their hoods. Next, see if the
side of the hood aligns with the fender (both sides). If your
driver's side is too low (as you indicate), place washers between
the hood and the locking mechanism (hinge). Do not use the
spacers some SECs come with. They hold rust. Just vary the
thickness of the washers, depending on how much you are off.
You will see what I mean, once you begin to play with the latch
(hinge). It's more easy and simple than my narrative. Once
you have adjusted it properly, you will not need to push the hood
down any more than a gentle nudge to close it. The spring in the
latch prevents the hood from 'sitting' too low, so you never need
the rubber bumpers. Hope this makes sense. I just did this on
my '89.

The hood from my 1987 560 sec will only falls in the lock when I use a lot

Does somebody has one available?
