[W126 Coupe] a couple of questions

Thanks everybody. I found it on my wife's car. Apparently whoever owned the car before me decided the backing plate was not needed and they removed it. I guess I will have to buy one.
I don't plan on doing the headliner myself. I just want to make sure it comes clean before investing in having it reattached..
I recall seeing there is a variety in the quality of the various headliner suppliers out there. If I can't get it clean, who has the closest one to OEM? Thanks.
Tom

Tom,
The outside temperature probe is mounted behind the front license plate. Usually at the bottom of the backing plate.
While the radiator may not be the ideal place for it, the gauge still fluctuates if you're sitting in traffic idling, even if the probe is in the right place.
The headliner is tough to get right. The stains can be removed with various stain removers, but if the fabric has separated from the backing it will have to be re-glued using contact glue. The trick is to use the right amount of glue so that it doesn't bleed through the fabric and, secondly, getting it back on real nice and smooth.
You may want to check with an upholstery shop. I had mine done a few years back and I think it only cost me about $300 for a new one.

Can anybody tell me where the outside temp sensor attaches to on the 560SEC? From the day I bought the car I don't think it was mounted correctly as the temp goes up when standing still and then goes down when moving again. Whoever moved it, just attached it to a piece of framework directly in front of the radiator with a tie wrap.
Also, I need to decide whether or not to replace the headliner. It is sagging, and more importantly, is dirty from when the sunroof rails were replaced. I want to try getting some of the grease off before going in for reattaching it. But I don't want to go through the expense of fixing it without first knowing if I can't get it clean. Any suggestions as to what to use? Thanks.
