Tom,
On my '91 560 SEC (US), the temp sensor comes through the lower vents in
the center of the front bumper and is attached behind the license
bracket and I think its ugly, there. I have been considering attaching
it behind the bumper vents as far away from the radiator and the roadway
as feasible and see how it performs.
I have not had to clean my headliner, but I will before I reattach it.
There has been some discussion recently on the BenzWorld.com w126 forum
concerning headliner refitting and there was a comment that care must be
taken to use mild cleaner with a minimum of rubbing to prevent damage to
the support foam under the fabric and to avoid fuzzing the fabric.
I think I found a link on mbcoupes to Chet Hwilka's excellent photo
description of the headliner recovering process. Another discussion
advised using 3M Hi-Tack 76 spray adhesive as it is for high temperature
applications and works on headliners where other spray adhesives fail
relative quickly due to the heat on the roof.
