Thanks Tom for your reply. I enjoy the car as you said you did; they are quite unique and get a lot of complements. I usually drive it in the summer and on long distance drives. We live very close to Montana and several years ago they didn't have any speed limits there and I did take it up to about 125 miles. At that point the car hunkers down and just grabs the road. It is a keeper!
Thanks,
Camran

Hi Camran,
Yes, I agree, there are many things I like about my 560 SEC too and I am not intending to sell mine anytime soon. I have owned it since 1997 and purchased it with 43,000 miles on it. It now has about 110,000 miles. It has been well cared for and still gets lots of favorable comments when seen by someone who is aware that it is a unique automobile. I am just saying, they are expensive to keep in top condition. For example, replacement of something as simple as a pair of head gaskets can run up to $4500.00, and that does not include any valve grinding. It is unusual to get out of the shop for less than a thousand bucks and that is at a shop that is very good, but charges about 30% less than the local Benz dealer. When I hear of one being sold, they do seem to be trading at fire sale prices compared to a couple of years ago.
Benz has not really made an adequate replacement for it since it was discontinued. I am 6' 4" tall and weigh about 350 lbs, so most of their current offerings are too small for me, and I do like the extra wide doors that are on the coupe. Since the prices are way down, I may pick up another 560 SEC or a 560 SL sedan.
Many years ago, I did all of my own mechanical work and did lots of complete engine rebuilds, tune ups and automotive electrical work for other people. Now, tri focal glasses and lack of time preclude doing my own work, but I still enjoy driving a unique car on Saturday night!
Sounds like yours is very low mileage? Do you drive it on long trips? Have you cruised it above 120 MPH?
They are as stable at 120 MPH as most cars are at 70 MPH. You do have to keep a sharp eye out for the high way patrol. I understand there is a fuel flow restrictor that comes into play at about 138 MPH, but I haven't managed to trip it yet.
Best Regards,
Tom Seitz
