[W126 Coupe] (another) blower a/c ?

Ok, since we're on the topic, does anyone have any guesses as to what is 
causing my blower motor to only run in auto, but not in max speed?

It will run in any mode other than Max on the fan selector, or Defrost 
on the main panel (which would force it to Max fan before it quit high 
speed operation.)

I was thinking a relay was likely, but the info I was finding about the 
wiring seemed to indicate that there wasn't one for high/low speed on 
the ventilation fan, just for the AC condenser fan behind the grille.
