[W126 Coupe] LOW COMPRESSION

My 1990 SEC (110,000 miles) has been using Mobil Delvac 1300 in 15-40 Wt
for the past several years. I usually run 6000-7000 miles between oil
changes. There is negligible oil consumption in those miles, not enough to notice
on the dip stick. Haven't checked the compression, but the engine idles
extremely smooth, no vibration what so ever. When the compression begins to be
a bit uneven, one can usually feel it at idle RPM, even though the engine
still makes good power. About twelve years ago, when I first bought the
car, Kendall brand oil had been used. You may think I am crazy, but when I
check the oil or ATF, I always sniff the stick. One can tell quite a bit
about the condition of the oil or ATF just by the smell. If the fluid is
becoming contaminated or has a burned odor, it's time to get it drained and
flushed even though relatively few miles may have accumulated since the last
change.
Just my two cents worth.
