Hi,
This is one of the things that I appreciated about the German insurance
system. When a car is totalled, you get the value of the damage -- AND
THE CAR. Usually its limited to the current value.
As to the magnet for woman drivers being true--so was mine.
When my tranny was being fixed a woman backed into the street without
looking and
collided with the front right. I think the test driver (mechanic) was
driving too fast, but I
wasn't there. I know only that when he picked me up I nearly had a
heart attack by the
manner and speed he used on the streets of Augsburg! The repairs came to over
EUR 3000 in damages, but the insurance would total it over EUR 2800.
So they did
some kind of funny business to keep it down under this. There is a
lot of frustration on
my part with this process because I was led to believe that the damage
was for EUR 300
for the new headlight. When I got the letter from the womans
insurance saying they paid
EUR 2750 to the repair shop who took on the whole transaction. I
absolutely hit the roof!
Thats a hefty profit for a used (MAX EUR 150) headlight assembly (new
EUR 350). Fortunately we came to an acceptable conclusion on this
otherwise I would have gone
to court.
Andy
