By driving on an unfamiliar road at 4 am looking for a warehouse. I
was looking left and when I looked forward I saw the road making a 90
degree left. I slammed on the brakes, but it was too late. I hit a
berm and went up and over it into the water. I had to wait for the car
to almost fill completely before I could get the door open and swim
ashore. Only about 20 feet, but fully clothed in a leather jacket with
the liner, a heavy cable knit sweater, jeans and tennis shoes I found
it is rather difficult to swim horizontally on the surface. After
hauling myself out, I then had to walk approx. a mile in 40 degree
weather with the wind blowing about ten knots. Needless to say, I
almost froze my ass off. At that moment, I wasn't really concerned
that my car sank in about 8 feet or so of water. The recovery/tow
people had to wait until earlier this afternoon to get the divers in
the water to hook it up, so since it sat totally under for around 10
hours, I'm not very optimistic.
