I've worked at Interstate for eight years. All OEM MB batteries in US are
supplied by Interstate so shop and compare on price and warranty.  Be aware
that Interstate application guide for imports 1990 and up is not worth the
paper she is printed on.  Your best bet is to go directly to the
distributorship and show them what you looking for.  Most common on w126 are
MTP-91 & 93 (black case with handle) and are made by JCI in USA, they also
have for these and newer modes MTP-H6 & H8 made in Spain by Varta, MTP-H7
made by JCI in Mexico.  Those sku's are the same as MB dealership sells -
look for white case, two small handles and proper vent tube port. You can

I got an Interstate 5 years ago from WalMart - still running strong (I live
in NC, so no winter hardships on the battery).  WM was by far the least
expensive for me.  Hope this helps.

As far as my knowledge it is true Interstate brand batteries are made to MB
specs, interchangeable, and the correct gear if you are not OEM fussy.  I
have to use OEM labelelled blue and white batteries as a top competitor in
concours, but now some judging standards may be relaxed in lesser concours
so as not to be a visible deduction. My children are hungry, and eat a LOT
of batteries for lunch, the cost has gone up in the last two years, but that
is my choice, but the truth be known----after ten years experience we aren't
getting hardly three years out of them before its time for another meal.
For our nonStar needs CostCo batteries and Sears DieHards are quite
acceptable and priced well.
Oh--and guys---when you replace the battery, please take a minute and clean
the crap out of there on the battery holddown plate.
