check and clean the contacts on the over protection relay, it's located
next to the fuse box and (I think) has a red fuse on top.

[W126 Coupe] Best Foreign Transmission European Exchange

Best transmission is from in New Jersey near New York. I purchased a
unit from him about five years ago for my 83 SEC and have not had a
moments trouble or expense since. I drove my AMG to the shop last
summer and he re-worked it for $200 vice putting in a rebuilt tranny.
Trannies are done the old fashioned way, rebuilt from the ground up by
20 year experienced techs with a solid owner accustomed to putting
quality first and letting word of mouth bring in the customers vice
making a quick buck or high costs using high volume and high cost
advertising. He will not sell a tranny without replacing the
torueconverterlike somere-buildersbecause that has a high risk of
ruining the new tranny. Even at that, the cost is around $1500 or so.
Shipping is arranged and reasonable with a return of your tranny in the
old shippingcontainer. phone numbers are ofc 201-489-7770, cell
402-727-2510.
I forget the owners name
As usual, I have no business interest in this, just want you to have
the best. I really researched with providers all over the country on
this issue for many months years ago before I purchased.

Help,
Looking for a Transmission for 87 SEC. The issue I have is the car
will not pull, the reverse gear is fine. I had this problem initially
appear 6 months ago and I found some insulation blocking the gear
shift. Now it appears the drive gear is gone. I received some
information pertaining to a valve or piston as a cause and not need to
replace the tranny . Any information or suggestions would be greatly
appreciated.

Sam,
Yes, AMG offered Recaro seating as an upgrade to the interior of the
W126.
They could even provide individual (2) rear Recaro seats for the SEL.
The period correct ones would be the "Classic C" model.

Recaro front seats...?
I have never seen those in an SEC and it never occurred to me... Sounds
great!
I have them in my 91 Mustang and my 96 Jeep Cherokee. They are awesome!!
It's amazing how much of a difference good seats make in a car... The
above two I mentioned came with really lousy seats!!
I always thought the SEC seats, although comfy, are a bit old tech
ergonomically...
Did AMG use Recaro seats in the SEC?
Are these attainable and where?
Good luck with your project and keep us posted.
Oh, and HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!!!!

Will do..
The exterior will be completed before the rest...
The interior wood is being redone in a dark maple colour which is going
to take a month...
I have also acquired a donor car with Recaro front seats... those are
also being retrimmed to match the car..
Then all the period AMG stuff such as exhausts, steering wheel, badges,
cluster etc...
Many Thanks & Regards

[W126 Coupe] Overheating, blown fuse and high idle,Park does not

Happy New Year group. I was hoping to start 2009 without car problems
but unfortunately my 1987 560 SEC is overheating. The other problems
seemed to have snowballed over the last couple of weeks. I am not sure
where to start looking. I had my thermostat replaced close to eight
months ago, so not sure if that is the problem again. Howdo I check to
make sure the water pump or radiator is not going out? I did notice a
little leakage at one of the corners of the radiator and hear a little
sizzling after th car has cooled.
2) I am also having problems with fuse #5 shorting out. I really need
to find the short in this line because the heat from the engine comes
in, and my back-up lights are out as well, not to mention the other
things attached to fuse #5. I have replaced this fuse many times but
once I start the car it blows after turning on the a/c.
3)I have read the archives regarding high idle which started a week and
half ago. I removed the idle control valve and not sure to look for on
this device, but I did notice that the hose located on the engine that
the unit plugs into is cracked down the middle. I don't know what that
part is called and how to remove. I am thinking maybe that could be the
culprit for high idle but not sure. I cleaned the connectors and
resinstalled.
4) on top of this I can't get my park to lock in place. I sometimes
have the roll the car forward a little to engage the park so I can
start the car. I thought maybe the transmission modulator has a leak
but someone told me that there is piece attached to the transmission
that could be going out.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Ihave towork on the
cooling and idle problem so I can make it work soon.
Crystal
Have a wonderful day,,,,,,,,MS.J
