[W126 Coupe] 14" tires for 1985 500 SEC

I have decided to put 16" AMG replica wheels and a set of Michelin Pilot
Sport tires on my one week old 1989 560 SEC. I'll see how it rides before I
decide on further modifications.
But can someone tell me what to expect in terms of front end suspension
replacement in terms of shocks, bushings, etc. This vehicle has 128,000 miles on
it and except for a slight vertical looseness at low speeds over railroad
grade crossings or bumps, it seems solid.

I err on the safe side and replace tires before needed.
Tires are much cheaper than paying for collision repairs along with higher
insurance premiums to say nothing for the ride of new tire.
I have driven several S Classes for more than 11 years - averaging 50-60K
per year.
I buy tires every 7-8 months - nothing now but MXV-4's.
Personally, I feel there's no comparison (Toyo - Goodyear- Continental -
other Michelin).
These cars are too heavy for cheap tires - you don't see a new Benz at the
dealer with Harmony's - must be a reason why.
Harmony's are one of the lowest quality tires Michelin makes.
Harmony's were about 25% cheaper and I got better than 25% more mileage, a
better ride and trade-in value with MXV-4's.
Different strokes for different folks.
Some one the other day said 'you get what you pay for' - so true!

I think something else must have been afoot.. I have a 300SEL who just
clipped 50K on his harmony's, w/ likely another 5-7K before they are spent.

I've had both.
Although they are move expense, the Primacy MXV-4 is a much better value.
The car weighs too much for the Harmony - tire wear is only 25-30K.
MXV-4's get approx 35-40K+ and has a sturdier side wall (better handling and
ride).

My rims are original 14" and stock suspension, which I am keeping, so need
to figure out
which Michelins are the best buy for warm rather than cold weather.
The local tire shop suggests the Harmony series. Any other thoughts
out there for the best ride?
Thanks,
Robert
