Jay,
I recently R&R most of the AC components on my 87 SEC but the only valve that I replaced was the expansion valve (not so much fun). I converted to R134 and the results are fantastic, I now have great cooling in my very black MB. Can you tell me where to find the mono valve and if you think it would be wise to replace it at this time.
Thanks,
steve

Jay,

I haven't seen your exact symptoms before, but you could have a number of issues, including bad monovalve, failing vacuum valves in the dash, low on refrigerant and failing AC push-button unit.

That you get both hot and cool air at the same time through different vents would indicate that the push-button unit is malfunctioning, but other sources of problems can't be excluded.

How many miles on the car? Any engine cooling issues (i.e. does the engine temp stay below 100)? Are you using R134 or R12 refrigerant? How's the refrigerant level? Have you changed the monovalve, or are you still running the original?

Try setting the temperature wheel to max hot and to max cool and check if the airflow is consistent hot and cold.

Good luck.

Hi,
My 89 sec with 83K miles is giving me an a/c problem and I need some direction as to where to start looking at the possible fix. It cools fine in the defrost, mid level and lower level for approximately 20 to 30 minutes then inadvertently the lower and windshield(defrost) goes to hot and I mean hot yet the mid level is cooling. I do not have to touch the climate controls to have this to happen. What are the most likely areas to look at. need some help very badly!!! any input is greatly appreciated.
