[W126 Coupe] 89 560 sec

That was the symptom that precipitated a $1300 estimate for the repairs on my 560SEL. It turned out to be two of the four o-rings in the "top-hat" area and their replacement was MOST ASSUREDLY a DIY repair. If you have a leak and the refrigerant is already gone or very low, doing this repair entails no more damage to the system and keep in mind that those o-rings are part of the $25 box of green viton air conditioning system o-rings available at AutoZone.

Give me a call if you'd like to discuss this simple repair.

My A/C compressor just has to be replaced, because it is leaking.
The garage told me that I could by a new one for $925 or a remanufactured for $350. The total cost with the rebuilt one including Cal Tax will be $930.

Al,

Replacing an ac compressor can cost money, especially if you do it "right" and also do the dryer, have the system sucked down and recharged with R12. Compressor is around $500, drier is around $50, MB also recommends you replace the suction line ($100-150), plus recharge and labor, you are well over $1000 in repairs right there. Plus, if there really is a leak, you may or may not have solved it.

If it were me, I'd leave it and sell as is. You may find you'd be spending too much to fix it just to sell it and not regain the $2000 or so in ac and bodywork. Just my two cents.

Hey guys, I need some advice.

I've been laid off for several months now and considering the job market it looks like I'll be filing for social security (I'm 63).
I have an 89 560 SEC with 93K miles that I would like to sell to help pay some bills.
I have two issues with the car -
1) The front bumper has a two small cracks (should I get it repaired or leave as original so show actual condition as the car has been accident free?)
2) The air compressor has a small seepage (I noticed during a tire rotation) - not leaking on the garage floor though.
I had it converted two years ago and still blows cold air.
Other than that, the car's extremely clean, well maintained, garaged and non-smoker.
Is $5,500 "as is" a fair price - should I make the repairs (repairs would have to be done by a MB dealership!) and ask more or leave "as is" in hopes someone with a mechanical ability has an interest and could do the job less expensively.
Can air compressors be repaired, rebuilt or are off brand air compressors available?
What would be approximate cost of either a repair, rebuilt, off brand or a new air compressor - installed?
If anyone has an interest in the car, contact me off line at alhollis at comcast.net

Thanks

Al
