[W126 Coupe] 89 560 sec

Markus,
Got it back on the road yesterday. I flushed the condenser of oil, repaired a bad o-ring (mine - silicone grease is your friend!!), then put in a butane/propane mix and now it cools great. I got a strange set of pressures yesterday (70/150) and wanted to take another reading this morning, then post the results. I did get 50-55 degree air out of the vents while moving around Vegas in 105F heat. When I stop at a traffic light, the vent temperatures would start to creep up so this fall ($$$ permitting) this car will also get the dual electric fans and the custom 140-amp alternator, which will give it much better HOT weather capabilities. The big alternator will also make it better when I find Euro headlights with 80/100 bulbs. :-)

Later,
Mike

Mike,

Is that car back in "service" again? Last I knew you were trying to get it to cool properly again. What was the resolution? Too much oil?

Markus

1 - I've used the SEM 68422 Bumper Repair two-part epoxy to repair the bumper on my SEC and will do it again for a small crack in my SEL's front bumper. Then you get to paint it. I found a Duplicolor paint that will work just fine for my SEL bumper.
2 - If you take the car to a mechanic for the AC repairs, Markus is right, but this is a DIY job for the most part if you want to give it a go. I disassembled every fitting on my SEC and put in new viton o-rings, including the leak in the "top-hat" (my name) area of the Nippondenso AC compressor. With a borrowed vacuum pump and gauges, and an adapter made from hardware store and auto parts store pieces, I recharged the system with a butane/propane mixture that gave me 50F air yesterday in 105F Las Vegas heat.

Where are you located? Give me a call if you'd like some more details.

Thanks,
Mike Ramay

Hey guys, I need some advice.

I've been laid off for several months now and considering the job market it looks like I'll be filing for social security (I'm 63).
I have an 89 560 SEC with 93K miles that I would like to sell to help pay some bills.
I have two issues with the car -
1) The front bumper has a two small cracks (should I get it repaired or leave as original so show actual condition as the car has been accident free?)
2) The air compressor has a small seepage (I noticed during a tire rotation) - not leaking on the garage floor though.
I had it converted two years ago and still blows cold air.
Other than that, the car's extremely clean, well maintained, garaged and non-smoker.
Is $5,500 "as is" a fair price - should I make the repairs (repairs would have to be done by a MB dealership!) and ask more or leave "as is" in hopes someone with a mechanical ability has an interest and could do the job less expensively.
Can air compressors be repaired, rebuilt or are off brand air compressors available?
What would be approximate cost of either a repair, rebuilt, off brand or a new air compressor - installed?
If anyone has an interest in the car, contact me off line at <mailto:alhollis at comcast.net> alhollis at comcast.net

Thanks

Al
